Queen Parrotfish, Bonaire

Queen Parrotfish, Bonaire

The large Queen Parrotfish (Scarus vetula) scrapes away algae and large pieces of coral with its strong beak and contributes to reef erosion. They're digesting whole pieces of coral, if you watch them eat. It comes out as sand. Without these creatures, you wouldn't have the white sand beaches. Parrotfish are very tasty, by the way.
